Many participants in the locally organised regattas first enter without an official HKPN handicap. Moreover, initial HKPNs are often unrealistically harsh and take months to adjust. So we have decided that a DBPN adjustment will be used where necessary to provide ‘a more level playing field’ for most DBYC events.
The DBPNs may be re-calculated after each race, but will never be of a magnitude that would have altered the final positions in that event, or normally be greater than 1% of the existing handicap. In this way, it is hoped that a broader variety of boats and experience levels will take part (and the prizes) and all crews will be encouraged to try harder for a better time.
Skippers are still encouraged to apply for a formal HKPN, which will be required for participation in races organised by other HKSF-affiliated clubs.
