Filling in for Paolo, here is a brief update of DBYC news...
For those who have not heard, Commodore Paolo Alvera has taken ill during his summer hols in Italy and has been admitted to hospital. The results of tests are awaited, and it is not clear when he may be able to return to Hong Kong. Our thoughts are with you, Paolo (he is not receiving e-mails), and God-speed on your road to recovery.
A quiet summer, after our DB Regatta and Stanley race-to-lunch, but looking ahead, the sailing season is about to burst into action again. Starting this coming weekend...
COA Macau Race - 29 Sep & 1 Oct. Quite a few DBYC boats are taking part in this fun 3-day event, with the race to Macau on Saturday, lay-day on Sunday (go-carting, Fernando’s for lunch, etc), and race back on Monday. Details here. Still time to enter (just) and more crew needed on DBYC boats for both races - just reply to crew@dbyc.net asap.
October Beginners Training Courses. Starting with theory lessons on 3 Oct, the October training is still expected to go ahead as planned. Jan Neuhaeusser (6101 2612) will take the reins, if Paolo has not returned in time.
RHKYC China Coast Regatta 12-14 Oct. Details here. Note, the entry deadline is 28 Sep.
China Cup 19-21 Oct. A 3-day event in Daya Bay, organised jointly by the Longcheer Yacht Club in Shenzen and the RHKYC. Details from the RHKYC here and from LYC here. Again, many DBYC boats are expected to take part and will be looking for crew. Note, entries by 3 Oct.
DBYC Middle Island Regatta - 27/28 Oct. A repeat of last year’s popular event (report here), comprising a race from DB-Middle Island (course here), followed by prize-giving and Middle-Eastern themed feast courtesy of the ABC, overnight aboard, buffet breakfast, then pursuit race back to DB for the overall prize-giving party on the marina headland. A great weekend for all the family, and not to be missed. *
Disney Islands Race - Sun, 11 Nov. Two medium-length races around interesting islands courses, followed by prizes sponsored by Mickey himself - win your crew tickets to Hong Kong Disneyland! See last year’s race report here. *
* As always, motor-boats are very welcome to join in the fun on these DBYC events. In particular, we need safety boats, big and small, to cover the races. Entry always free, for any boats assisting around the course.
All these events are mentioned in the on-line DBYC calendar of events, located here. Enough to keep you busy?
We will pass on any news as to Paolo’s condition, as we receive it.
Regards,
Jim Fernie
