Salona Cup. 'Drag-racing' is excellent practise for the whole crew, focusing repeatedly on the start and beat to a windward mark. Sponsored by
Asia Yacht Services, and this year run by Sytske Kimman, the Salona Cup was won by
Boadicea with the most reliable performance repeated over the six 'races'. Well done to Mike Delaney for their well-deserved (and hard-fought) first win on the new boat! [...and sexy new overlapping genoa...]
Rolex China Sea Race - 1 Apr 10. The forecast is looking frustratingly calm for the start of this year's RCSR to Subic Bay, starting midday, Thursday, but we expect great things from DBYC entries
Xena (winner of IRC Premier Cruising on last year's SFR),
Vega (on her first China Sea Race) and
Kei Lun (after repairs, now stronger than ever). Also
Miss Salona II, on charter to a team from the Netherlands, but with Sytske along as owners rep'. You can monitor their progress through the sat-tracking link
here. Best of luck!
DBYC AGM - 23 Apr 10. This year's AGM will be an important one. The start of our Club's second decade, we'll begin with a new Commodore, Vice-Commodore and Rear-Commodore (to be elected). Indeed, volunteers are invited for
all positions on the Executive Committee, so if you feel you can contribute you will be very welcome to assist. Please contact Andy Kung at
sec@dbyc.net for details, or if you wish to raise any topics on the agenda.
And please remember to bring your chequebooks for your 2010/11 subs - now due! DBYC merchandise (shirts, hats, etc) will also be on sale...
TMR 13 - 24/25 Apr 10. The thirteenth edition of the
Tsing Ma Regatta,
kindly sponsored by the DB Marina Club, will be quite different from previous years. After routing direct to the Tsing Ma bridge, Race 1 will continue round the airport to picturesque Tai O for the overnight at anchor, with Chinese-style dinner ashore. Then Race 2 will continue round Lantau to DB for the traditional headland party & prize-giving. Details now posted
here. The ABC will be joining us for Race 1 (as part of their own round-Lantau weekend), so this should be a big one!
CREW WANTED. As always, the boats on the Tsing Ma Regatta will need lots of keen crew, no prior experience necessary. If you want to sign up, please check out the DBYC
CREW web page. And skippers - now you know where to go to find those able hands...
That's it, my last Newsletter.
I'll be stepping down from the Executive Committee at the AGM, which I will actually miss, being somewhere off Palawan by then on Harlequin, en-route to KK. After 10 years, I think it's time to let others have a go, with more boundless energy and fresh ideas.
Thank you for all your support, taking our Club from infancy to teens. I look forward to the next decade, and the development to full maturity under new management. Rest assured, I can still be relied upon to assist where required - I know how much effort goes on in the background to make it all happen!
See you on the water... /)
Regards,
Jim Fernie
Commodore (Retd)
