An interesting month, so far, with T. Prapiroon reminding us that the tropical cyclone warning system is not infallible. More on typhoon procedures below, but first...
DBYC Regatta - Sat, 9 Sep. Yes, Saturday was the strong preference from a straw poll of the skippers. So we are going for two races over local islands courses on Sat, 9 Sep. That will allow you to enter the COA 3-pubs Race the next day if you so wish. The Notice of Race and Entry Form for the DB Regatta will follow this weekend, with the SI’s posted on the web site ‘Events’ page shortly thereafter.
Volunteers. We will need some help setting up the races and the prize-giving ashore immediately afterwards. The Race Officer will need assistance on board the Committee Boat (and a photographer is always welcome there, too), support speed-boats are always a great help, and we need some brain power on the Race Committee to assist with sponsorship. Any volunteers?
Crew Wanted. There are always one or two crew spots available on our regattas. The races on 9 Sep will route around two local islands courses, so no great pressure - just lots of fun. Reply here asap if you fancy a sail.
Other Events. Here’s a list of other upcoming events for your diary:
Sun, 3 Sep ABC Opening Regatta
Sat, 9 Sep DB Regatta (see above)
Sun, 10 Sep COA 3-pubs Race and RHKYC Double-handed Race
16/17 Sep RHKYC Autumn Regatta
Typhoon Procedures. Concerns have been raised about the Marina Club’s new procedure of raising the net at T1 and leaving it raised through T3, T8 and beyond. Also, that non-DBMC members are not allowed entry during T1, regardless of actual conditions or space available. We have taken these points up with Manager, Albert Khong, who grants that UNDER VERY SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES, non-DBMC members may be allowed in at T1, on application to the Manager or Deputy Manager only. He also assures us that the net will be manned on a 24-hour basis so that entry will not be delayed un-necessarily.
However, we suggest you make very, very sure (by calling Reception 2987 9591 well in advance) that, DBMC-member or otherwise, your entry permission is assured before leaving your mooring and/or arriving at the net, to be held off in typhoon conditions.
Note, after T8 has been raised, you are unlikely to be able to get through by mobile phone…
Insurance. Five boats ended up on the beach (or rocks) during T. Prapiroon, and one lost her mast. Please take this opportunity to check on the specifics of your typhoon warranty. For example, does it specifically cover you for shelter at DBMC, which is not a Government listed typhoon shelter under Cap 313D...?
Annual Subs. For the last few annual subs that are still outstanding, please pop a cheque in the DBYC post-box at the Marina Club, or send direct to DBYC Treasurer, Nigel Easterbrook, at Flat E, Block 5, Parkland Drive, Discovery Bay. Please fill out a new membership application form if any of your details have changed, otherwise just the dosh. Thanks.
