DBYC Events: Cheung Chau Cruise - Sunday, 26 March 06

By popular request, we are going to open the 2006 season with another Cheung Chau (racing) cruise-to-lunch, along similar lines to last Summer’s event (report here) on Sunday, 26 March.

There will be no race briefing, just a print-out with the Sailing Instructions and the various staggered start times for each boat, so please read this through carefully…

CC race mapTo keep things simple, and to ensure we all get there in time for lunch together, we’re going for a staggered start from the mouth of the marina - first start at 1100 hrs, so plenty of time to recover from the excesses of Saturday night. We’ll be using nominal Pursuit Race-style starting times, but this is not a Pursuit Race. That is, the first boat over the line at Cheung Chau rock will not necessarily be the winner. We’ll use your total elapsed times to calculate each boat’s corrected time, and those will decide prize-order.

The course will be very simple: Peng Chau and Kau Yi Chau to starboard, finishing at Cheung Chau rock at about 1400. Liquid prizes will be awarded ashore over a late lunch, which will be held in the wind-surfing centre at the south end of Tung Wan beach from 1430-1600.

Weather permitting, boats should then anchor on the South end of Tung Wan (Cheung Chau bathing beach) in the vicinity of the SE corner of the bathing net. Boats with tenders are invited to bring them along. If conditions preclude anchoring in Tung Wan then mooring/anchoring in the Cheung Chau typhoon shelter may be preferred.Parking for lunch

We plan on eating at the wind-surfing club at the South end of the beach this time. For those travelling by ferry to join us at Cheung Chau, we expect to be there by about 1430.

Non-racers and power boats very welcome, but please let us know you’re coming so we can arrange seating for the appropriate numbers.
