DBYC Newsletters: February 2007

Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Hope you’ve been making the most of this unseasonably pleasant sailing weather? We’ve not had any organised DBYC events since the Boxing Day cruise to Lamma, but that’s not to say your Committee have been slacking. Let’s bring you up to date...

Tsing Ma Regatta.  From DB - Gold Coast - DB over the weekend of 28/29 April. Paolo Alvera has volunteered to act as Race Chairman this time, but will need some assistance in a number of areas. If anyone feels they can help out, please contact Paolo direct through training@dbyc.net. As always, stink-boats are very welcome to join in the fun. In particular, we need safety boats, big and small, to cover the two races - entry free, for any boats assisting around the course.

Now up to TMR #10, the event will need no introduction for most of you, but the previous and very popular format looks something like this:

Friday 1900-2200 Bilge Bar meet & greet
Saturday 1000 Skippers brief
  1130 Start off DB
  1600 Finish off Gold Coast
  1600-1800 Dockside welcome drinks
  1930 Buffet dinner at GCYCC
  2130 Prize-giving
Sunday 0900 Buffet breakfast
  0930 Skippers brief
1000 First start for Pursuit Race return
  1600 Finish off DB
  1500-1800 Headland picnic
  1700 Raffle
  1730 Prize-giving

Full details will be posted on the web next month, together with the Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions and Entry Forms. Meantime, start working on getting those days off!

ABC Classic Yacht Rally.  Continuing in the vein of last November’s DBYC Middle Island Regatta, we are keen to arrange regular reciprocal events with the Aberdeen Boat Club. We have invited them to join us for the TMR and we, in turn, have been invited to attend their Classic Yacht Rally on 5/6 May. Follow this link to their new web site (containing lots of pretty piccies of DBYC boats) for further details as they become available. Let’s take a fleet of DBYC boats over there, win both the races, and enjoy the famous ABC hospitality!

Executive Commitee.  As mentioned in speeches at the excellent DBYC Xmas Party, our AGM in April will be an opportunity to re-organise the club’s Executive Committee and introduce some fresh blood, new ideas. This is your opportunity to do your bit for the club, as well as having a say in the club’s future. We are inviting volunteers to step forward - if you have any particular areas of expertise or interest and have a little time to offer, please reply by the end of this month, before our next committee meeting.

DBYC Event Calendar 2007.  The DBYC event calendar will be published after the committee meeting mentioned above. So this is your opportunity to let us know which races and events turn your fancy. Give us your feedback, so we can plan events that you will enjoy. Reports on previous races and cruises can be found here.

Swing-mooring Security.  Sad to say, we’ve had reports of a stolen dinghy and an attempted break-in from boats moored in Nim Shue Wan and Cheung Sha Lan. Please keep an eye on the boats there and report anything supicious to the Police immediately. Boat-owners, please review your security arrangements and don’t leave valuable or attractive items on board. Lastly, report any loss, no matter how slight, to the Police so that security breaches are seen to be chased up.

See you on the water!

Regards,
Jim Fernie
