DBYC Newsletters: February 2008

Dear Members,
2007 came and went with a bang with a lot of successful events including a Tsing Ma Regatta and a great Middle Island Race and we are now trying to keep warm while thinking about the  coming sailing season.

Sailing Calendar  2008

Macau race
COA Lunar New Year Hong Kong Macau Race will be on the 7th Thurs – 9th Sat February 2008

Mooring at Club Nautico De Macau has now become very limited and the Committee decided to allocate these mooring to 15 first Entries who completed all the form.  The rest have to moor on the adjacent Government basin.

Race training day  Feb 24th
Organised by Ken Wiltshire
A succession of race starts to the windward mark. Last year Ken decided to also include the return (back to the start, downwind) which made the race even more interesting. We shall find out whether he intends to do the same this year.
This day has been so successful that Asia Yacht  Services will offer a perennial cup and some prizes and the race will be named the Miss Salona Cup. This cup will stay with the club and every year the new winner’s name will be etched on it.  A warm thanks to Bart Kimman for the support.

Tsing Ma Regatta 26th & 27th April

This race is part of our tradition with a day one race to Gold Coast with gourmet dinner, prize giving and party. Then a pursuit race back to DB the following day with dinner on the headland offered by the Marina Club.

Stanley Puruit race 25th May

Family picnik 24th August

Full moon cruise 13th September

Middle Island Regatta 18th & 19th October
Organised by Greg Farleigh
This race is one of the highlights os our season with a race to Middle Island where the legendary hospitality of the ABC will all but guarantee a succulent dinner and prize giving. On day one. Day two will be a pursuit race back to DB with dinner on the headland offered by the Marina Club.

Soko overnight 15th & 16th November
Organised by Richard Winter
After the success of Richard’s Soko overnight event 1n 2007 by popular demand we decided to ask him to repeat it in 2008. Wine, song and happiness guaranteed around a beach bonfire.

Training
There will be 2 training courses for beginners. One in the Spring and one in the Autumn.  There will also be a training week-end for members who wish to be trainers. We are considering an advanced  course  on spinnaker handling. The advanced course will depend on subscriptions. If you are interested please write; after having received enough enquiries we will issue a date. Dates for the other courses will be published on the website soon.

It’s good to see Tsuru  back on the mooring with her rigging up and looking  strong. It’s like having an old friend return.

China Sea Race
So far only Harlequin & Thea are preparing to do it. Good luck to both.

AGM
The Annual General Meeting is due. There is no date yet but we are shooting for April. We will decide the exact date at the next Committee meeting and announce it.

Webcam
The webcam project is turning out to be a little more technically demanding than previously thought. Our fabulous team of experts are working on it (albeit at their own pace). We have faith in them nevertheless. We shall overcome.

Kind regards

Paolo Alvera’
