Firstly, huge apologies for missing the June Newsletter (consider this it… even in the month of July), due to the distraction of a few weeks early Summer hols.
Sounds like many of you have been making the most of this excellent sailing weather. The Summer season is well and truly upon us, with temps up around 33 degs and 90% humidity. Only one thing for it - get out on the water! Speaking of which…
Soko Islands Cruise - 15/16 Jul. Training Rep, Paolo Alvera, has proposed a Sokos BBQ and overnight, next Sat/Sun, 15/16 Jul. Very low-key, but we’ll organise a race on the way there if we have enough interest (and wind). Entry free for DBYC members, with the usual ice-cold & wet prizes. Reply soonest for details here. Space available for interested crew…
New Arrivals. It’s great to see that a lot of members are taking delivery of new boats this Summer. We look forward to you participating in future events and can provide DBPN handicaps, when necessary, but always recommend that you apply through the COA for an HKPN - application form here.
Insurance. Our Cruising Rep, Neale Nowosad has pioneered a useful contact for boat insurance, Stella Kwok, who has been able to offer some very good deals for DBYC members. We’ll cover more on this topic in the next Newsletter, but contact Neale or myself for details if you are likely to be renewing your insurance in the near future.
Upcoming Events. It’s often a bit hot for full-on racing during the height of the Summer, so suggestions are welcome for cruising destinations, which generally include a fun race to lunch. Meantime, here’s a list of upcoming events for your diary:
15/16 Jul Soko Islands Cruise
Sun, 23 Jul ABC Summer 4
12/13 Aug HHYC Mirs Bay Race (& pursuit race return)
Sun, 3 Sep ABC Opening Regatta
Sun, 10 Sep DB Derby
16/17 Sep RHKYC Autumn Regatta
Annual Subs. A few annual subs are still outstanding (you know who you are), so please pop a cheque in the DBYC post-box at the Marina Club, or send direct to DBYC Treasurer, Nigel Easterbrook, at Flat E, Block 5, Parkland Drive, Discovery Bay. Please fill out a new membership application form if any of your details have changed, otherwise just the dosh. Thanks.
See you on the water!
Regards,
Jim Fernie
