DBYC Newsletters: October 2006

FEEDBACK REQUIRED!

We have a couple of major events planned for the next few weeks - the DBYC Middle Island Regatta and our Xmas Party. As always, the most difficult part is trying to estimate numbers, so we need your initial input as to whether you expect to take part. Please assist your Committee by replying asap with your intentions.

DBYC Middle Island Regatta - 11&12 Nov.  Planned as a round-Lamma race and overnight at ABC Middle Island with lamb-spit party, followed by overnight, breakfast and race back to DB on the Sunday. More details to follow, but this should be a biggie, with large entries from both DBYC and ABC, rivalling the popular Tsing Ma Regatta. We need to know asap whether you:

- intend entering for either / both days
- will require overnight berthing
- approx catering numbers for lamb-spit part and breakfast

DBYC Xmas Party - Fri, 1 Dec.    Your Social Committee are working hard to arrange the Xmas Party as a classy black-tie affair aboard Star Pisces overnight on Fri, 1 Dec. Boarding at 1800 Friday evening, cruising local waters overnight and disembarking by 1100 the next morning. Cost is expected to be just $880 per person (after DBYC subsidy). We need to know asap if you plan on attending.

Nil Returns.  Please also reply if you cannot participate in these events - nil returns help us build a ‘big picture’ for catering bookings.

Marine Air Polution.  Further to the very detailed FH article on the subject a couple of months back, lobby group Clear The Air is pursuing the topic of marine air polution in HK waters - and you can help. Follow this link to learn how to report merchant shipping which you may spot pumping out clouds of black smoke: www.cleartheair.org.hk/boats.htm.

Typhoon CIMARON.   This super-typhoon is presently over Manila and expected to continue West, but worth keeping an eye on...

See you on the water!

Regards,
Jim Fernie
