DBYC Notices: Typhoon shelter at DBMC

Dear Skippers,

The Marina Club has asked us to warn owners of boats moored outside the marina, that availability of visitor berthing is likely to be severely limited in the event of a typhoon threatening Hong Kong this season. This is due to extensive work being carried out on D-dock at present, followed by E- and F-docks in the late Summer/Autumn.

DBMC Manager, Albert Khong recommends that owners do not delay moving boats to the shelter of the marina until the last moment, in case space is not available and an alternative must be sought, such as the Hei Ling Chau typhooon shelter. However, priority will be given to Marina Club members boats when the #1 signal is raised, and all others after the #3 signal, subject to availability. When all berths are fully occupied, the Marina Club will have to close the entrance net. It is the marina management’s primary responsibility to protect boats already within the marina, and they will bar access to boats that will not have space to berth alongside safely.

Now might be a good time to double-check your insurance coverage (some policies now offer typhoon cover on your mooring) as well as the integrity of your mooring tackle.

Regards,
Jim
