The 2019 DBYC Regatta was held on 7th September. This year it seemed that the weather gods did not want to favour this event as the forecast was winds anywhere from 1-3 knots with some rain. The worst was expected, however an hour before the start the wind picked up, which in the end resulted in champagne sailing with sunny weather and the wind staying more or less south easterly in a range of 6-11 knots.
A good start was made by Neo one. Nervous Breakdown and Speedy Gonzales, followed by Yellow Bolero and Sapphire which saw the small fleet heading to the windward mark, Datum Rock. As expected Stefan’s Neo One stomped off, Speedy Gonzales pulled away from Nervous Breakdown and Yellow Bolero until Nervous decided to go fishing with their Kite. It took them to long to retrieve the Kite which resulted in them coming fifth. Yellow Bolero was fourth, with Safire 3rd , Speedy 2nd and Neo One first.
A lot of fun was had on the water, we really appreciated our new member Glyn to help us out. He provided the committee/ chase boat. The fun and the normal friendly banter continued on land. The DB Plaza restaurant Coyote provided a great venue for prize giving with a good meal and drinks.
See you at our upcoming event the Middle Island Regatta on the 19/20th October.
